Spider Veins/ Thread Veins

With our laser devices spider vein scan be treated in a professional and effective way. However, the veins are red or blue from face, arms and legs with a minimum side effect (slight pain and reddish skin). The optimal result is after 3 sessions, one session every six weeks.

What Are Thread Veins

There are different designations for facial and legs veins depending on the diameter size and depth of the vein, accordingly these veins require different treatments. Thread veins or spider veins are small dilated blood vessels that appear near the surface of the skin measuring 3mm or less in diameter. For larger spider veins, known as telangiectasia, and smaller varicose leg veins sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment preferred over laser. The sclerosing solution is injected and closes the feeder veins under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, making the recurrence less likely. Varicose veins that are twisty bulging veins on the legs caused by an increase in the normal venous pressure, the mainstay of treatment for these deeper and larger veins is surgery or endovascular laser.

Thread Veins are most common on the nose, cheeks and legs, and can cause some distress and embarrassment for those who have them. Using Fotona XP-Dinamis ( Nd-yag laser), Laze away provides a safe and effective treatment for the removal of spider veins for all skin types with minimal downtime or risk in a few quick treatments.

Thread Veins May Be Hereditary Or A Result Of A Variety Of Factors Such As Sun Damage, Oral Contraceptives, Smoking, Alcohol Consumption, Varicose Veins, Pregnancy, Tight Leggings, Cross Legs Sitting And Prolonged Standing. The Over Use Of Steroid Creams, Certain Auto Immune Conditions And Rosacea ( Skin Condition That Cause Constant Flushing), May Also Induce Spider Veins.

Lasers have been used to treat various vascular lesions since the 1970’s, by introducing new wavelengths and variable pulse durations; the laser treatment of Vascular Lesions has become safe and extremely effective. Based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, hemoglobin is the primary target of Nd-Yag laser light, as the energy is absorbed by the blood in the vessel, heat is created, the blood within the vessel coagulates and is effectively destroyed, a selective thermo-injury. Nd:Yag light also targets the underlying vascular feeding system, which is important for ensuring a long term result. Following the treatment the vessels quickly clear as and the vessel itself will be effectively destroyed and will be absorbed by the body, within 1 to 3 weeks leaving no trace of the original veins. Blood flow is then redirected to veins deeper below. The laser selectively targets the problem veins while sparring surrounding areas. Fotonas long pulse Nd:Yag laser penetrate to a depth of a 5-6mm into the skin, allowing for a highly effective treatment for veins up to 3mm.

Who Can Be Treated And Where

All Skin types can be treated. The Fotona Xp Dinamis treats spider veins from all parts of the body, your therapist will be able to advise you on the suitability of the treatment based on your particular circumstances.

How Many Treatments Are Necessary And How Long Does Each Treatment Take

Typically three to four treatments are needed for maximum results, though small lesions may clear in just a single session. Sessions are repeated every six weeks to allow full recovery of each session. Treatment time varies between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on size of the area treated, larger areas may take longer. It is important to stress that reabsorption of vein tissue and period of complete recovery is a characteristic of each individual.

How Long Does It Last

Immediately after the treatment the veins will look more prominent and darker in colour, because of coagulation of the blood. After one to three weeks the veins will fade gradually. People who have developed unsightly veins may eventually develop them again, especially facial blood vessels. It is recommended that a maintenance plan is developed to check results and relapse.

What Does The Treatment Feel Like

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anesthesia. Sometimes for sensitive clients we use topical anesthetic cream 1 hour prior the treatment. The cold air cooling method during the treatment protects the epidermis from overheating and minimizes pain and discomfort. The cooling cold air system cools the epidermis before during and after laser energy without interfering with the laser beam.

Pretreatment Advice

No Sun exposure and tanning beds or creams for at least two weeks prior the treatment.

Post Care Advice:

Following your treatment you can resume normal activities.

Discomfort such as swelling and redness( erythema), hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, are possible risks and complications of the laser procedure, they are temporary and can resolve in a few days, can be relieved with ice packs. There is a possible risk, though very small, of scarring.

Avoid taking aspirin, brufen or any other blood thinning drugs.

Avoid drinking red wine, coffee and spices for at least 48h after treatment;

Apply hydrocortisone 1% cream (available at Boots) for the first 2 days; Arnica gel for the following days to hydrate and sooth the area treated;

Avoid exposure to the sun. Apply sunscreen SPF30 at all times;

Avoid using make up, if using we advise Mineral make up and remove it delicately, rubbing can increase scarring;

Treatment on the legs, clients should avoid long periods standing or sitting.
